I'm super gooshy about K.C. right now since we're leaving. I get very nostalgic about people and places when I know I can't have them anymore. I can't believe I'm moving away from a place that has really grown on me. I really do love Kansas City, Missouri. So...please hang in through the sentiment.
First off--my house. I love that my backyard was a forest. I love looking outside and watching the changing of the seasons. More recently, I love walking outside at night and seeing the twinkling of the fireflies. Seriously people, if you do not have fireflies where you live, you should get some. They are my new favorite thing. I love my little home-nothing too big but just the right space for us. I love the location--I felt safe, nestled in a quiet little city outside of Kansas City. We were 15 minutes from the airport, 5 minutes from downtown K.C. and 20 minutes from anything else worth seeing. I love my walks with J.Lo in the morning-seeing the sunlight hit the skyline of K.C... Add in the part where I lived next to the most amazing people, and BAM...best place ever. I will miss our home here in Kansas City.
Deanna Rose Farmstead. Ok, I don't have kids, but for reals my friends, this place is so cool! During the week, it was free and the weekends it's a couple dollars. You can fish, feed baby goats, ride ponies and see all kinds of farm animals. I took Hallee when she was here and she LOVED it. All kids love this place and I'm not ashamed to say the kid in me LOVES this place.
English Landing Park. One of my first favorite places of Kansas City. It's right next to the Missouri River with a 2 mile trail sandwiched between the river and the railroad tracks...I loved walking the trail. In the fall, the leaves flutter around you and it's just beautiful. Oh I will miss this place.
I love that in order to get into downtown or over to Kansas, you have to cross the river. I love the bridges. Wow that sounds so nerdy. I love crossing Broadway bridge into the downtown and the Bond bridge is just architecturally cool. Bridges have been replacing my need for mountains..or something. K I need to move on quickly cuz this nerdiness is freakin' me out.
Downtown K.C. MO. Don't go to downtown K.C. Kansas. I've been over there and it scares me. But the Missouri side is great. It's like S.L.C. but squished. I love all the old buildings. The Power & Light district is always hopping and a great place to go if you enjoy the boozin. And City Hall looks like it's something from Gotham City...there I go nerdin' it up again.
QuickTrip. Yes I am mentioning a gas station as one of my favorite places. I continue to sink deeper. But until you live just up the road from one and partake of the lovely QT donuts, you cannot judge.
Sonic Drive-In. You've probably noticed my increasing acknowledgments of Sonic on here...it's because it is awesome! Sonic's Happy Hour is a Mormon girls dream come true. There are like 2 billion drink combinations or something...and if they shook it up and served it like a martini, I'd probably live there. Sonic shakes and creamslushes are just so very dern good. I even got Mr. Healthnut Seth hooked onto Sonic treats. I shall miss being right around the corner from Sonic...but I'm sure my bootay and waistline will be grateful.
KCUMB. The medical school so lovingly located in the deep middle of the ghetto. And when I say ghetto, I mean g-h-e-t-t-o, fo sho. I wouldn't dare walk around the school after dark. But the campus of KCUMB is lovely. It's small and quaint with the charm of the old buildings. It's like a little oasis hidden in the middle of doom. I'll miss taking my life into my own hands crossing Independence Avenue. I'll miss security escorts to my car after dark. I'll miss all the people that worked at KCUMB. They were all so nice and helpful. I'm glad I had the opportunity to work on the campus and make great friends.
Sigh....Cape Girardeau has so much to live up to.
